DRIVING SCHOOL DEFINITIONS

Driving school – Driving school is generally to teach a person how to drive. But the school may have additional
services such as: Car rentals for test, Private driving lessons, private written test classes for permit, defensive
driving classes, mature driving classes and company classes for employees.

Driving school Instructor – A State certified person who is drug screened, background checked, physically
examined and tested on all stated driving laws, and safety techniques that works for a specific equally certified
school with an equally certified instructor and operator.

Learner’s Permit – is a permit to drive and practice for the Road test to obtain a California Driver’s license. A
permit is necessary for anyone regardless of age if they want a Driver’s license. During this permit time- you must
be accompanied by an adult twenty five years and older with a California driver’s license and carry the state
necessary insurance.

Behind the wheel – This is a term for driving classes with a driving school.

Road test – this is the actual test with the department of motor vehicles.
Orientation drive – A two hour driving lesson (behind the wheel) a teaching technique by Tomco only. This is a
two hour lesson that is additional to the state required six hours. Tomco can usually gets this class scheduled
within a week which will satisfy the first drive rule and then will allow you to start using your permit legally –
making Tomco the fastest to get you on the road with the best chance of passing.

TRAFFIC SCHOOL DEFINITIONS

Traffic school – traffic school is really traffic violator’s school which is for persons who violated and traffic law
and received a citation (ticket) then requested traffic school to keep the points off for insurance purposes.

Traffic School instructor – A State certified person who is drug screened, background checked and tested on
all stated driving laws, and court procedures that works for a specific equally certified school with an equally
certified instructor and operator.

Case number – A number but sometimes called a docket number that is used to track your specific violation.

Docket number – A number but sometimes called a Case number that is used to track your specific violation.
Court Venue or jurisdiction- The court you are processing you violation (Ticket) Through.

Court code – The number that signifies what court and division specific to the violation. It is where the traffic
school sends the completion of traffic school to.

C.T.S.I. – California Traffic School Institute. This a private company that is contracted with the D.M.V. to process
traffic school completions, track schools, ensure all license and procedures are adhered to under the state of
California laws and regulations. They keep record of all traffic schools, there ongoing classes, their instructors and
inspects them sporadically and annually to ensure all laws and regulations are adhered to at all times.

OTHER DEFINITIONS

Car Rental – A car can be rented from some driving schools. Because California does not rent cars to persons
under 21 years of age, a person may need to rent a car. The car rentals comes with a certified instructor and is a
person allowed to use the car for the actual road test only.

Mature driving school – A class for mature drivers over 55 years old that usually consist of a classroom
setting. Sometimes the court will order a private driving lesson with an opinion of a certified driving instructor in
letter form returned back to the court.

Safety driving class – Usually a class and driving lesson combo class that consist of safety measure when
driving to increase a person’s ability to drive at a more cautious rate.

Company Safety driving class – A specifically designed training program designed to target specific problems
or concerns of a company with its employees when behind the wheel. This class can usually satisfy any insurance
discount program.
